Aug. 3—Carroll has dismissed Mike Pomfret as its football head coach effective immediately.

The school district announced the decision in a statement Monday, Aug. 3.

Mitch Weitz has been named the interim football head coach. He is an assistant coach for football and the boys bowling head coach at Carroll.

"As a result of an on-field incident at practice, effective immediately, Mike Pomfret is no longer employed at Archbishop Carroll High School as a teacher or coach," said Carroll High School principal Matt Sableski said in a statement.

Pomfret, a 2007 Carroll alum, was entering his second season as the football head coach at Carroll after being hired in January 2025.

He was placed on administrative leave by the school district after a reported incident occurring while the team held acclimatation practices at Ohio Dominican University that concluded on Tuesday, July 28.

Pomfret was also a physical education teacher at the high school.

"Our commitment at Archbishop Carroll High School remains unchanged: providing a safe, positive, and faith-filled environment, spiritually, and athletically. We appreciate the dedication of our players, coaches, and families throughout tis transition and look forward to an exciting season ahead," Sableski said.
