Holmes High School hires Emanuel Golsby as next football coach

Holmes High School has hired Emanuel Golsby as its newest football coach.

Golsby, a 2005 Holmes graduate, was most recently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Purcell Marian. He has 10 years of coaching experience that includes stints at New Richmond, Turpin, Dixie Heights and Holmes.

"I am excited," Golsby said in a statement. "It’s home. I’ve always held that school near and dear to my heart.”

He played wide receiver, running back and defensive back for the Bulldogs under Mike Farley and former Conner head coach Dave Trosper. During his playing days, Holmes went 9-22.

Emanuel Golsby returns to Holmes High School as head football coach after serving as an assistant at Purcell Marian.

Golsby replaces Jonathan Hopkins, who retired from teaching and coaching after one year on the sidelines in an interim basis.

This fall will be the final season that the Bulldogs will compete as an unclassed team as they continue to rebuild the program. Their most recent winning season was in 2021 when they went 8-3, but their last postseason win came in 2019.

"(Golsby) has built a reputation for developing strong relationships with student-athletes, parents, and staff while emphasizing discipline, accountability, and academic success," athletic director Ken Ellis said in a statement. “He brings a comprehensive understanding of the game, with experience coaching both offense and defense, and a strong commitment to preparation, film study, and effective communication.”
