Nobody knows the official NIL numbers for teams or individuals around college sports and I suspect we never truly will, but there’s enough reporting out there to piece together a few things.

One such thing is this: Indiana football, in two years under head coach Curt Cignetti, hasn’t been among the top spenders in the sport. Despite this, the Hooisers won the national championship in 2025, as I’m sure you know well enough at this point.

But what about 2026? CBS Sports recently released an article on the most expensive rosters in college football this coming season and Indiana wasn’t part of it. CBS promptly released a different article poking into that curiosity.

The program’s success has led to increased spending, but Indiana took on less transfers than it did in either of the past two offseasons. CBS reports that Indiana was more selective in the portal this offseason, ultimately signing multiple top prospects like former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, former Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh and former Kansas State defensive lineman Tobi Osunsanmi, among others. It’s why Indiana’s class still hovered near the top of the rankings in spite of a limited number of additions.

We don’t, and won’t, know just how much Indiana spent this season, but CBS indicates the program is spending at a level that will keep it in contention for this season and those to come.
