After finishing four years at Hope College, Liam Danitz figured he was done with football.
But it turns out, his career is just revving up.
Danitz, who has been one of the names getting a lot of attention in the transfer portal, committed to play his final year of eligibility at Wisconsin on Thursday, Jan. 15. He confirmed that commitment to The Sentinel.
“I am so proud of that dude,” Hope coach Peter Stuursma said. “It is crazy how college football is working today – and he is still developing. But that 10.55 (100-meter dash time) is eye-popping.”
An edge rusher, Danitz made schools look twice at him with his speed and size combination. He was an All-American runner for Hope’s track team last spring, and at 6-feet, 5-inches and 232 pounds, he is just the combination to excel at the next level with a 10.55 100-meter dash time.
Danitz, from West Branch, had 15 sacks and 21 tackles for loss this season. That doesn’t account for all of the quarterback hurries and altered passes he created. Or the amount of double- and triple-teams he faced, allowing his teammates to get to the quarterback.
He had offers to UCLA, West Virginia and Ole Miss, among many others.
The Badgers are coming off of a 4-8 season and are looking for help in a lot of areas. Wisconsin had 63 tackles for losses last year, including 32 sacks. That is 12th in the Big Ten and less than half of what conference champion Indiana had (128).
