BIRMINGHAM — Alabama football commit Jabarrius Garror may go by the nickname “Chicken,” but nothing about his game suggests timidity.
The origin of that nickname goes all the way back to the day he was born.
“My grandma, she was talking about me [looking] like a wet chicken when I was born, when I first came out,” Garror said. “So that’s pretty much stuck. She just started calling me that, (and) everybody in the neighborhood started calling me that.”
Now a 6-foot-2½, 215-pound edge rusher in the Class of 2027, Garror has grown into one of Alabama’s highest-rated prospects. He is a four-star recruit and the No. 3 player in the state, as well as the No. 15 edge rusher nationally, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Alabama officially offered him in March 2024, and he committed in July. Garror still holds 29 total offers, including Ohio State, Texas and LSU.
After a Super 7 Class 5A state championship appearance, where Vigor fell 25-0 to Moody on Thursday, Dec. 4, Garror finished his junior season with 108 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, 21 sacks, 18 quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Garror is also the reigning Alabama Sports Writers Association 5A Lineman of the Year after his sophomore season with the Wolves.
