Washington has dipped into Florida to get a commitment from another blue-chip recruit in the 2027 class.
Cornerback Censere Gaylord, a four-star recruit from IMG Academy, committed to the Huskies on Saturday, the 24th player to pledge to Washington in the 2027 class. Gaylord is originally from Southern California, where he played his freshman season at Bishop Alemany in Mission Hills.
Gaylord is immediately Washington’s highest-rated recruit according to 247Sports, clocking in at No. 112 overall. Nearly half of the Huskies’ commitments are now blue-chip recruits as well, as Gaylord makes 11 of the 24 players heading to Montlake with four-star pedigree.
With the combination of Gaylord and three-star in-state corner Maurice Williams, Washington has now earned commitments from two high-ceiling prospects who could very well end up being the Huskies’ next lockdown tandem on the outside. The Huskies could also continue to pursue three-star in-state recruit J’Isaiah Mitchell, who is currently committed to Boise State but received a recent offer from Washington.
Washington will not lose any cornerbacks to graduation after the 2026 season, as transfer Emmanuel Karnley is in his fourth season but will be able to use a fifth if he chooses to. That means the Huskies could return the starting tandem of Karnley and sophomore Dylan Robinson in 2027, along with Jeron Jones and Rahsjon Duncan, two freshmen who are expected to provide crucial depth this season. But Karnley will also have the option of heading to the NFL after the year if he has a strong season, which could result in a spirited battle between Jones, Duncan, and Gaylord for the starting spot opposite Robinson.
With 4.48 speed, high-end ball production (7 interceptions in his last 16 games), and tremendous polish – as evidenced by the fact that he will end up as a three-year starter for IMG – Gaylord certainly feels like a player Washington will push to play early and often. His current frame may be the only obstacle, as Gaylord is currently listed at 6-foot and 165 pounds, which could push him into a battle for duties in the slot depending on how the depth chart on Montlake shakes out.

Gaylord chose Washington over Georgia, a close second in his recruitment, and Georgia Tech. He told 247Sports that his relationships with the coaching staff – he has known defensive backs coach John Richardson since eighth grade – and his visit to Seattle closed the deal for the Huskies, who now have locked up the highest-ranked cornerback who was left on the board in 2027.
With the combination of Gaylord, Williams, and safety commitments Isala Aisa Wily-Ava and Jaden Walk-Green, Washington may have essentially filled out their secondary for 2027 and beyond with four players who fit like a glove in defensive coordinator Ryan Walters’ scheme.
