How did Alabama State football grade out in Turkey Day Classic win?

Wfelt like a shootout in the early going turned into a beatdown. Alabama State football defeated rival Tuskegee 58-21 in the 101st Turkey Day Classic at ASU Stadium on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27.

Te’Sean Smoot finished the season with a 5-0 record as a starter for the Hornets at quarterback, turning in a career day in passing yards with 351.

The Alabama State defense struggled in the first quarter and for most of the second until defensive back Ta’Shaun Sims turned the tide with a pair of interceptions, one for a touchdown.

Here’s how the Montgomery Advertiser graded Alabama State’s Turkey Day classic win over Tuskegee.

Alabama State football offense vs. Tuskegee: A+

The offense couldn’t have been more efficient than it was in the Turkey Day Classic. Smoot looked the best he’s been all season, and it was an explosive outing from the Hornets receiving crew.

Alabama State defense vs. Tuskegee: B-

It was hard-earned grade, and if it weren’t for the interceptions by Sims, it could have been worse. Alabama State made the necessary adjustments to impose its will on the Division II opponent.

Alabama State special teams vs. Tuskegee: B

With how good the offense was, the special teams unit was rarely needed. But a muffed punt by Ajai Harrell that lead to a Tuskegee touchdown to keep this grade from being higher.

Alabama State coaching vs. Tuskegee: A

It speaks to a coaching staff to right the wrongs, and that’s what this staff did on defense. The offense was in control once it took a two-score lead.

Final grade for Alabama State win vs. Tuskegee: A-

The offense has been the redeeming grace for the Hornets in 2025, and it’s why it earned such a high grade in the win over Tuskegee. It’s hard to fault a blowout to cap what’s been an impressive season from Alabama State.
