Ohio State football coach Ryan Day said star wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate recovered well after returning from unspecified injuries in their win at archrival Michigan on Nov. 29.
“Both of those guys came out as good as could be expected,” Day said on a teleconference on Nov. 30, “so that was great. Two gritty performances and gutsy performances.”
They should remain available for the Big Ten championship game this week. Day added that Smith and Tate would be “excited” to play against fellow unbeaten Indiana in Indianapolis.
Neither Smith nor Tate showed ill effects of injuries against the Wolverines. Each caught a touchdown and played more than half of the Buckeyes’ total offensive snaps.
Tate led the Buckeyes with five catches for 82 yards in his first appearance since Nov. 1. He had missed the previous three games, while Smith had only been sidelined against Rutgers on Nov. 22.
Smith finished with three receptions for 40 yards at Michigan.
