Before the Salute to Veterans Bowl kicked off at the Cramton Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 16, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery did an air drop with seven parachutists landing around midfield before the singing of the national anthem.

The pregame air drop received a standing ovation and applause from the crowd at Cramton Bowl, but lost in the backdrop was the eighth parachutist who missed the mark, landing at Paterson Field — a nearby baseball complex to the north of the Cramton Bowl where the game between Jacksonville State football and Troy was being played.

Bowl officials had no explanation, and a Maxwell Air Force Base official did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It appeared that the lost parachutist did make a landing on the field portion of Paterson Field, but it is unclear what happened, or the status of the parachutist who made the landing at the baseball complex.

The other seven parachutist stuck safe landings at Cramton Bowl, with the last parachutist landing with the flag that was presented before the kickoff.
