How many Oklahoma State football fans were injured storming field vs Oregon?

STILLWATER — Some Oklahoma State fans paid the price for storming the field. 

Fans rushed onto the field Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium following OSU’s upset 39-31 win against No. 6 Oregon. A totla of 51,035 fans attended the game.

Three people suffered ankle injuries, OSU associate director of public information Shannon Rigsby told The Oklahoman. Another 42 people suffered heat-related incidents during the game.

That is a tame injury report, compared to the 2011 field storm after OSU defeated Oklahoma. The Associated Press reported several people were trampled that day in Boone Pickens Stadium and one was critically injured after falling 15 feet. Of the 13 injured, 11 were taken to local hospitals. Leg fractures were the only specific injury mentioned.

Against Oregon this year, OSU students tore down the uprights on the stadium's west side and carried them all the way to Theta Pond, dumping them in the water. 

OSU coach Eric Morris didn’t have any issues navigating through the crowd. His security detail cleared people out of the way.

“That was crazy,” Morris said. “When I was surrounded by police officers after I shook hands with coach Lanning and they started rushing me off the field for an ESPN interview, and boy, they were taking people out left and right. Now, hats off to those guys. Some of the hardest hits I saw today were our loyal officers taking people out, getting me to the tunnel to do an interview. I didn’t get to witness the actual on-the-field [chaos]; I saw it as chaos around me.”
