The Mike Norvell era reached a new low Monday night in Tallahassee. Florida State lost to SMU 27-24 after a lengthy power outage, and things won't get any easier next week as Alabama awaits.
It's been a disaster for Norvell ever since the Seminoles' 13-1 campaign in 2023. He's gone 8-18 since then, with Florida State fans growing increasingly impatient with the direction he's taking the program.
Moving on from Norvell would be quite the costly decision for Florida State, however. Here's a look at what Norvell's buyout would be and how it stacks up among the largest in college football history.

Florida State would owe Norvell $46.7 million if it fired him on Dec. 1, according to contract details obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
How would Mike Norvell's buyout rank historically?
If Norvell is fired, he'd receive the third-biggest buyout in college football history. Jimbo Fisher and Brian Kelly rank first and second, receiving buyouts of $76.8 million and $53.8 million from Texas A&M and LSU, respectively. James Franklin was previously third at $49 million after his Penn State firing, but since he took the Virginia Tech job a month later, it dropped to $9 million.
