GLENDALE, AZ — Ole Miss football coach Pete Golding and LSU coach Lane Kiffin are done racking up bonus money on the Rebels’ CFP run.
The Rebels lost the Fiesta Bowl 31-27 on Jan. 8 at State Farm Stadium. The Rebels (13-2) came up short against Miami (13-2), and the Hurricanes will play in the national championship on Jan. 19 against either Indiana or Oregon.
Both Golding and Kiffin have contract incentives tied to Ole Miss‘ CFP performance. LSU is paying out the incentives in Kiffin’s contract after he left Ole Miss on Nov. 30.
A Fiesta Bowl win would have bumped both coaches’ bonuses up by $250,000, for a total of $750,000. Instead they will take away $500,000 for the two Ole Miss wins in the CFP.
Golding and Kiffin could have earned up to $1 million if the Rebels had won the national championship.
Golding is making $6.8 million as a first-year head coach according to his term sheet. It’s above what he was making as defensive coordinator ($2.6 million) but below the $9 million annually that Kiffin was making as the Rebels’ coach.
