How social media reacted to UNC football ending its losing streak at Syracuse on Halloween

Halloween can be a night full of tricks, but for the UNC football team, it proved to be one massive treat.
The Tar Heels, entering Friday’s night clash with four consecutive losses, dominated Syracuse in a 27-10 performance.
North Carolina (3-5, 1-3 ACC) played arguably its most complete game of the 2025 season. UNC totaled 425 yards and 27 points, both season-bests against Power Four competition. The Tar Heels held Syracuse (3-6, 1-5 ACC) to three points, with the hosts’ first-quarter touchdown coming on a fumble return.
Demon June quickly proved why he deserves the bulk of North Carolina’s carries going forward. UNC’s star, true freshman running back totaled 182 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, out-gaining the Orange (147 yards) himself.
Gio Lopez, who turned the ball over twice last week, played his best game in a Tar Heels uniform on Halloween. North Carolina’s starting quarterback, who completed 15 of his 19 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns, looked poised and decisive in the backfield.
Seemingly every time UNC faces a new quarterback, that guy has a field day. Not Friday night. The Tar Heels made Syracuse quarterback Joseph Filardi’s night a living nightmare – forcing him into 14 incompletions, limiting him to 39 yards, sacking him three times and breaking up three passes.
You know things are going well when Bill Belichick, who typically reserves his emotions, cracks a smile. North Carolina’s head coach did exactly that in his postgame, on-field interview, proud of his players for finally watching their hard work pay off.
As you can imagine, social media was pretty happy about Halloween’s result. Take a look at several reactions from across X.

Big weekly improvements…nearly a winning record
#UNC has been improving incrementally, week-by-week, despite facing massive injuries and an absolute media circus.
If you’ve watched the last 2 games, this performance vs. Cal isn’t surprising.
Heels were 2 plays away from 5-3 and 3-1 in ACC.

Yeah, he did that.

Football bounced the right way tonight.
North Carolina is two goal line fumbles from being 3-1 in the ACC and in contention for the ACC title.
Really makes you think.😉

Complete win for the Tar Heels
– Most points against an FBS team
– Most yds in a game
– Most rushing yds in a game
– Most passing yds in a game
– Least amount of yds given up
– Least amount of points given up against an FBS teamTaken a while to get to this point, but an all-around good night for #UNC.

UNC’s defense was suffocating tonight
We all know Syracuse had offensive challenges tonight. But @UNCFootball defense still allowed just 147 total yards, the fewest by a UNC opponent since Clemson gained 132 in 1997.
How good was ’97 defense (@drebly_32, Spoon, Ellis, Mays, Simmons, etc)? It allowed EIGHT sub-200…

Make it happen!
Hey @EASPORTSCollege I know you just did a roster update but…

And…breathe.
If my memory serves, tomorrow will be the first time in forever that #UNC fans can watch Saturday football with a win already in the bag. pic.twitter.com/V2z4aAzPAG

All about the little steps.
Don’t look now, but UNC football is improving. 3 straight weeks of steps forward.
