Stetson finished 3-9 last season, allowing 39.1 points per game and scoring 18.8 on average. However, the team’s run game was a success.. The Hatters averaged 161 rush yards per game last season (51st nationally), while SDSU’s offense averaged 154.3.
Stetson junior quarterback Chris Stephenson ended last season as the starter. His biggest weapon is his legs. While he threw for only 454 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions across seven games, Stephenson rushed for 467 yards and five touchdowns on 4.9 yards per carry.
As for South Dakota State, it is looking to get back into title contention. Even though the school beat the FCS national champions and won nine games, the Jackrabbits ultimately fell in the second round to Montana.
The Jacks have 15 returning starters this year (eight offense, six defense, one special teams) compared to just five last year. Quarterback Chase Mason returns, along with wide receiver Lofton O’Groske and five offensive linemen
