FIU and FAU renew their South Florida rivalry on Saturday in the annual Shula Bowl. The two campuses are separated by just 57 miles, adding some extra intensity to the in-state matchup. The rivalry is named in honor of legendary Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, as both programs’ inaugural head coaches, Howard Schnellenberger and Don Strock, had ties to the Dolphins legend.

How to Watch FIU vs. FAU

Thus far this season, FIU is off to a 1-1 start, falling 19-9 to South Florida before bouncing back to defeat Buffalo 33-20. The Panthers were led by quarterback JJ Kohl in the win over Buffalo. Kohl connected on 21 of 36 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns, while Maguire Anderson caught five passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, FAU is also 1-1 this season. The Owls fell 66-21 against Florida before bouncing back to pull off the impressive upset win over Navy, 38-30. FAU quarterback Caden Veltkamp was fantastic against the Midshipmen, completing 27 of 32 passes for 386 yards and five touchdowns. Easton Masser had a monster game, catching eight passes for 179 yards and two scores against Navy.
This series has been one-sided historically, as the Owls own a 17-5 series lead over the Panthers in the Shula Bowl. Most recently, however, FIU defeated FAU 38-28 on Sept. 13, 2025, behind a huge performance from running back Kejon Owens, who carried the ball 19 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
