Georgia Tech is off to a quite disappointing 1-2 start this season, falling 14-13 to Colorado at home and then 45-24 to Tennessee before bouncing back to defeat Mercer 44-11. In the win over Mercer, quarterback Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of reigning Heisman winner and the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Fernando Mendoza, was effective, connecting on 15 of 21 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns. On the season so far, Mendoza is 58 of 84 through the air for 707 yards and has four touchdowns and two interceptions, showing promise as a signal-caller.
Against the Bears, running back Justice Haynes ran the ball 22 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while Dalen Penson caught three passes for 58 yards. Jaiven Plummer and Debron Gatling each had a 30-plus-yard receiving touchdown in the victory.
Stanford, meanwhile, is 1-2 this season, defeating Hawaii 37-27 before losing 45-6 against Miami and 35-7 against Duke. Running back Micah Ford has 47 carries for 202 yards and three touchdowns on the season, so getting him going will be key if Stanford wants to have a chance against Georgia Tech on Saturday night.
