Rhode Island is coming off a trip to the FCS playoffs, which ended in a 47-26 loss to UC Davis. The team won the CAA in 2025, going 11-3 overall and 8-0 in conference play. The Rams were unanimous picks to repeat in the CAA preseason poll, with quarterback Devin Farrell named the conference’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year,
Merrimack enters 2026 as one of two independent teams in the FCS along with Chicago State. Last season, the team went 4-8, including losses in five of the team’s final six contests.
This will be the third meeting all-time between these teams. They last met in 2019, with Rhode Island coming away with a big 42-14 victory. The Rams have won both previous matchups.
