Notre Dame pulled away in the second half on Sunday for a 41-13 win over Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Aneyas Williams ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, and CJ Carr completed 19 of 29 throws for 239 yards and a pair of scores. D.J. McKinney put the Irish up 27-10 with a 55-yard pick-six in the third quarter, and Jordan Faison grabbed four passes for 81 yards.
Tyvonn Byars rolled up 104 yards on 16 carries to lead Rice’s potent run game in a 31-3 win over visiting FCS Houston Christian in its season opener last week. The Owls piled up 458 rushing yards, with quarterback Jacurri Brown adding 98 on 13 attempts while also throwing for a touchdown. Quinton Jackson ran for a score and also caught a TD pass.
The Fighting Irish have never lost to the Owls in five previous meetings. Notre Dame finished last season with 10 straight wins and opted not to play in a bowl game after being bypassed by the College Football Playoff selection committee. Rice went 5-8 with a loss to Texas State in the Armed Forces Bowl.
