Boston College struggled to stop the run and turned the ball over twice on Saturday in a 34-15 loss at Cincinnati. The Bearcats piled up 254 rushing yards in the game, and the Eagles committed a pair of turnovers. Mason McKenzie finished 18-of-35 for 223 yards and a touchdown but also threw an interception while adding 78 yards on 20 rushing attempts. Evan Dickens scored on the ground, and Johnathan Montague Jr. caught a TD pass. Javarius Green grabbed six balls for 74 yards in the loss.
Rutgers gave up 30 unanswered points in a stunning 37-21 loss to visiting UMass, which entered with a 16-game losing streak, on Sept. 3. The Scarlet Knights gave up 200 rushing yards and managed just 27 on the ground. Dylan Lonergan, the Boston College transfer, threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times and left with an injury in the fourth quarter. KJ Duff caught nine passes for 196 yards and three scores. AJ Surace went 6-for-9 for 77 yards and a TD and will start Friday night.
The Eagles lead the all-time series 20-7-1, while the Scarlet Knights won the last time the teams played, picking up a 22-21 road win in 2022.
