San José State enters at 0-1 after opening its season with a 42-26 road loss to No. 14 USC. Quarterback Luke Weaver showed plenty of promise in the defeat, completing 21 of 32 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 42 yards and another score. The Spartans trailed 28-0 at halftime before putting together a much stronger second half, and they will look to carry that momentum into their second consecutive road game.

Eastern Michigan comes in at 1-0 after beginning the year with a 28-17 victory over Sacramento State. Quarterback Noah Kim, who led the MAC with 2,817 passing yards in 2025, returns to lead the Eagles, and he was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week following the opener. Eastern Michigan has also won both previous meetings with San José State, although those came in bowl games, making Friday the first regular-season matchup between the programs. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET on ESPN+.
