The Red Raiders cruised to a 33-10 win over Abilene Christian last week behind 298 yards from quarterback Will Hammond. It marked his first game as the full-time starting quarterback, but you wouldn’t have known it. He completed his first 14 passes and threw for 298 yards for the Red Raiders, including a 64-yard touchdown to Malcolm Simmons. Hammond is still working his way back from a torn ACL, but the Red Raiders feel that his growth is only upwards.
Oregon State kept things close against No. 22 Houston in the first game under head coach JaMarcus Shepherd. Transfer quarterback Braden Atkinsonson threw for 376 yards and a touchdown, including five catches for 136 yards and a touchdown to freshman Jesse Legree. The Beavers did fall 33-20 to Houston, but the game was within a score late into the fourth quarter.
This marks the third time the two teams will square-off, with Texas Tech winning the two previous games. However, this is the first time it will be a road game for the Red Raiders.
