UNLV, the prohibitive favorite in the MWC entering the season, couldn’t hold a second-half lead in a 27-21 loss to visiting Memphis last Saturday night. Jackson Arnold hit Kayden McGee for a 22-yard score early in the second half to put the Rebels up 21-14 before the Tigers rallied. Arnold finished 25-of-37 for 291 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 54 yards and a TD on 21 carries, absorbing six sacks in the loss. Tavian McNair caught a 38-yard scoring pass, and Jai’Den Thomas caught six balls for 54 yards.
Hawaii rallied to take a 27-23 lead with 4:06 to play at Stanford last Saturday before the Cardinal got two touchdowns in a span of 29 seconds with less than two minutes remaining for a 37-27 victory. Micah Alejado threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to DeVon Rice to give the Rainbow Warriors their only lead. Alejado went 31-of-51 for 272 yards and two scores. Rice ran for 35 yards, had four catches for 25 yards and a TD; Tama Uiliata also grabbed a touchdown.
The Rainbow Warriors hold a 19-16 advantage all-time in the series with the Rebels, with UNLV winning the last three meetings, including a 38-10 romp in Las Vegas on Nov. 21.
