After a picture-perfect season opener, K-State is set to take on a team that was a Power 5 team when the game was scheduled, and now isn’t because the whims of College Football cast them aside.

Yeah, it’s not fun.

The Game

The Kansas State Wildcats (1-0) host the Washington State Cougars (0-1, 0-0 Pac-12) for Fort Riley Day.

This will be the first meeting between the two schools, and it came about partially due to former K-State president Kirk Schulz having moved on to Wazzu.

The Cougars are lead by first-year head coach Kirby Moore, Kellen Moore’s younger brother. After his own playing career at Boise State ended in 2013, he moved into coaching, handling offensive duties at various stops before taking over as offensive coordinator at Missouri — where he was in charge of the offense that defeated K-State at Faurot Field in 2023.

Washington State has had ups and downs, with their all-time record being just a bit below .500. They won four Pac-12 (or PCC) championships over the years, plus a North Division title followed by a loss in the conference title game. They’ve been to 20 bowl games, posting a 9-11 record.

The season opener for the Cougars was a putrid 24-10 loss to rivals Washington in the Apple Cup, a game which made neither team look particularly competent.

Kickoff

Saturday, September 12, 11:00pm CT at Bill Snyder Family Stadium (50,000) in Manhattan, Kansas.

Tickets

The game is officially sold out, with standing room only available through the ticket office. You can get in the door for nosebleed via third-party sellers for as low as $14, but there are a lot of seats out there in the mid-three figures and the median is around $100.

Weather

The bad news for tailgaters is that it’s going to be raining all morning, although temperatures will be in the low-mid 70s. Expect that rain to stop shortly before game time, where the temperature is expected to be 76°, and it should still not reach 80° by the conclusion.

Odds

Per our friends at DraftKings the purple Cats are a 17.5-point favorite. The over is 49.5, suggesting a 33-16 win for K-State. The money line is -1000 for the Cats, +650 for the Cougars.

Television

TNT with J.B. Long, Mike Golic Jr., and Jared Greenberg.

Radio

As always, Wyatt Thompson, Stan Weber, and Matt Walters will be on hand on the K-State Sports Network as well as via satellite on SiriusXM 174 or 238.

Internet Streaming

The game will stream on HBO MAX (subscription required). Audio available via kstatesports.com. Live stats provided by StatBroadcast.
