BATON ROUGE — Lane Kiffin‘s first quarterback room at LSU football is complete.
LSU has signed USC freshman transfer quarterback Husan Longstreet, the school announced Wednesday. Longstreet has four years of eligibility remaining.
Longstreet, rated the No. 6 quarterback in the transfer portal, is the third quarterback Kiffin and his offensive staff have pulled from the transfer portal since Sunday. Elon transfer Landen Clark was the first to commit followed by Arizona State‘s Sam Leavitt.
He appeared in four games with the Trojans last season, completing 13 of 15 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Why Husan Longstreet picked LSU football out of transfer portal
Kiffin, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and quarterbacks coach Dane Stevens got on Longstreet early in the process once he entered the transfer portal. And they stayed after him.
Longstreet visited LSU amidst Kiffin and company actively and publicly recruited both Leavitt and Clark and they were very forthright with their plans for him and why LSU would be the best place for him to grow and develop. Obviously, Longstreet is buying into the vision.
How Husan Longstreet will fit LSU football’s roster
Leavitt is LSU’s starting quarterback next season. That’s not up for debate. But there will be competition for the primary backup spot behind him.
Kiffin and Weis expect there to be a strong position battle between Longstreet and Clark and through that competition, both quarterbacks are expected to get better. Longstreet is a great fit for how Kiffin runs his offense. As long as Kiffin and his staff can keep him in Baton Rouge, Longstreet shores up LSU’s quarterback room for years to come.

When does transfer portal close?
The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date, but those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
