BATON ROUGE — Another one.
At this point, it may feel like DJ Khaled is providing the soundtrack to LSU football’s transfer portal haul with new coach Lane Kiffin orchestrating the plan. The Tigers have already garnered five commitments from wide receivers out of the portal.
Make it six now as McNeese State transfer wide receiver Josh Jackson pledged his commitment to LSU Friday, per multiple reports. He’s the second receiver to transfer to LSU today as Illinois wide out Malik Elzy committed earlier.
As a freshman with the Cowboys last season, Jackson piled up 258 receiving yards on 20 catches.
Why Josh Jackson picked LSU football out transfer portal
The origins in this decision for Jackson are very likely simple. The playmaker is a Louisiana native, more specifically from New Orleans, and it’s probable that he’s dreamed of playing for the Tigers.
LSU coaches live in New Orleans in terms of on the recruiting trail and Jackson has likely had plenty of conversations with LSU assistants over the years while he was starring at St. Augustine. There’s a lineage from his high school to LSU, most notably Tyrann Mathieu.
On top of that, this is the first time Jackson will get to try his hand at the highest level of college football.
How Josh Jackson will fit LSU football’s roster
Jackson’s path to see the field right away for the Tigers is likely slim, considering who all Kiffin and company have already brought into the program from the portal. But that’s not the immediate goal for Jackson with this coaching staff anyway.
The 6-2, 205-pounder is being added to the receiver room for depth purposes. Jackson has three years of eligibility left so he’ll develop and within a year or two, be a playmaker for the Tigers.
