Three players who had outstanding senior seasons in the Lackawanna Football Conference were added to the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star games.
Running back Isaac Ryon, last season’s Times-Tribune Offensive Player of the Year, and linebacker Colin Owens were named to the East roster for the Small-School game. The Lackawanna Trail standouts replace Scranton Prep athlete Will McPartland and Lakeland lineman Weston Loomis, who withdrew from the game.
Wallenpaupack linebacker Logan Caruso was added to the East roster for the Large School all-star game.
The East-West Small School game is May 17 at 12 p.m., and the Large School game is at 5 p.m. at Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field in Mechanicsburg.
Ryon, the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 1A Player of the Year, ran for an LIAA-record 2,876 yards on 201 carries and 49 touchdowns. He set LIAA records for touchdowns in a season (54) and points in a season (354). The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder set a school record with 370 yards rushing in a game against Riverside. He also ran for 305 yards in a win over Mid Valley and 319 yards in a win over Tri-Valley. Ryon finished his career with a school-record 4,969 yards rushing, which ranks ninth in LIAA history.
Owens, a standout as a linebacker and guard, finished second on the team with 78 total tackles and had five tackles for loss. The 6-1, 220-pounder, who has committed to play at Misericordia University, had two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery on a team that won the LFC Division III and District 2 Class 1A championships.
The two Lions will join teammate and linebacker Tyler Jervis, Lakeland quarterback David Naniewicz, Berwick defensive lineman JJ Leonard and Wyoming Area lineman Max Getzie on the East roster. Former Western Wayne coach Shane Grodack and Hanover Area coach Eric Richardson are assistant coaches for the East.
Caruso, a 5-10, 190-pound senior, had 68 total tackles and an interception while helping Wallenpaupack win an Eastern Conference Class 4A playoff title over Honesdale.
He and North Pocono lineman Dylan Caster, a 6-8, 315-pound senior, and Dallas coach Rich Mannello, an assistant for the East, are the District 2 representatives in the Big School game.
Dunmore coach Kevin McHale was selected to serve as an assistant coach for the 2027 PSFCA East-West Small School game.
Dippre to host camp
New England Patriots tight end CJ Dippre, a Lakeland graduate, will host a youth football camp June 23 at Riverfront Sports Complex, West Olive Street in Scranton.
The camp is open to youths ages 8 to 13 and is free. It will run from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Dippre, an all-state player at Lakeland, started for two seasons at Maryland before transferring to Alabama, where he was a starter for the 2023 SEC Championship team that reached the College Football Playoff and lost in overtime, 27-20, to eventual champion Michigan in the Rose Bowl.
The 6-foot-5, 256-pounder signed with the AFC champion New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. He was added to the 53-man roster late last season and saw action in two games.
Anders to Lackawanna
Abington Heights senior Gavin Anders has committed to continue his academic and athletic careers at Lackawanna College.
Originally intending to play lacrosse at McDaniel College, the 6-1, 185-pound record-setting receiver de-committed and shifted his focus to football.
He was selected to the All-Region and PFW Class 5A all-state teams after setting several school records last fall. Anders had 74 receptions for 1,158 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2025. He tied an LFC record with 17 receptions and had a season-high 237 yards against North Pocono. He is Abington Heights’ record holder with 143 career receptions and 2,053 yards receiving.
Lackawanna College will become a member of the NCAA Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference for the 2026-27 season.
