The Hurricanes have always prided themselves on recruiting South Florida, and on Tuesday, they landed a prospect from the furthest reaches of the region.
Key West three-star defensive lineman Josh Johnson committed to Miami, announcing his decision on social media. Johnson chose UM over Florida.
Johnson, a Class of 2027 defensive lineman, is listed as the No. 98 defensive lineman and No. 876 player in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Johnson, who is listed at 6-5 and 270 pounds, was limited by an injury in 2025, limiting his time with the Conchs. He has also competed in track and field.
Johnson is the first interior defensive lineman in Miami’s 2027 class. The Hurricanes currently have six players in the class.
