IHSA finalizes schedule for postponed championship football games

NORMAL — The Illinois High School Association finalized the schedule for its postponed football championship games, according to a release Saturday night.
The IHSA will play the Class 7A and 8A championship games at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, on the campus of Northern Illinois University.
As announced Friday, the 5A and 6A games will be 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Hancock Stadium, on the campus of Illinois State University.
The four championship football games, originally scheduled for Saturday, were postponed Friday because of a snow storm that hit Illinois over the weekend.
“Illinois State was committed to hosting all eight state championship games if possible, but could not host the 7A and 8A title games until Thursday due to a scheduling conflict on Wednesday,” IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said in a release. “We did not want to further impact the schedules and routines of our competing teams, so NIU’s willingness to step up, especially given the geography of the competing teams, made this an easy decision.”
The IHSA is working with the ticketing groups at ISU and NIU and anticipates that all tickets previously purchased through the ISU ticket office will be honored in DeKalb. The IHSA on Monday will release more information on ticketing.

At Hancock Stadium, Normal
- Class 5A: 9 Wheaton St. Francis (10-3) vs. 5 New Lenox Providence (10-3), 3 p.m.
- Class 6A: 11 Oak Park Fenwick (10-3) vs. 8 East St. Louis (10-3), 6 p.m.
IHSA state football: Wednesday, Dec. 3 games
At Huskie Stadium, DeKalb
- Class 7A: 25 Chicago St. Rita (9-4) vs. 6 Chicago Brother Rice (12-1), 3 p.m.
- Class 8A: 1 Chicago Mt. Carmel (13-0) vs. 11 Oswego (11-2), 6 p.m.
