That might be one of the weirdest headlines I have typed, but the Illinois football program is looking at a baseball commit.

This also sounds like desperation from a program, but the Illini aren't the only ones who want Tyler Fryman to come play for their program.

On Friday, Fryman took to social media to announce that he has received a scholarship offer from Illinois. It would be impressive if the Illini could get in this recruitment, as there are so many programs vying for his services.

Fryman is a 5-foot-11, 179-pound wide receiver from Beechwood High School in Kentucky. He is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 183 player in the class of 2027. He is also the No. 26 wide receiver in the country and the No. 4 player coming out of Kentucky.

What is crazy is that Fryman is already committed to Louisville. He committed to their baseball program when he was in eighth grade. Now three years later, he is one of the top wide receivers in his recruiting class, and he has roughly 15 scholarship offers on the table to play football.

The Illinois football wide receiver situation in 2027 could be a mess and a great opportunity for Tyler Fryman

Heading into the future, I think Illinois has a couple of sure-fire great players who will help the program at wide receiver.

I think Brayden Trimble is one of those pieces. He took a redshirt as a freshman, and his presence in 2026 and beyond should be special. I also like Collin Dixon for the next couple of seasons. He will be one of our stars on offense.

Beyond that, there is plenty of room for a wide receiver to come in and get snaps and starts from day one. I think that is what Fryman could do for Illinois. He is clearly a freak athlete, and I think he could see starts in 2027. Let's make up some ground and maybe even secure a visit. Getting him in the building would be a huge first step.
