It was an explosive Fourth of July for the Illinois football program, as Bret Bielema and Co. secured their eleventh commitment within the last month.

The Illini, who have 15 commitments so far for the class of 2027, have been finding great success when it comes to recruiting for the future. They are quickly putting together a solid squad for 2027. On Saturday, another recruit joined the 'famILLy' after Allen Trieu of Rivals reported three-star ATH Darryl Flemister had committed to Illinois.

Flemister, a product of Detroit, Michigan, is a versatile athlete who has played quarterback, safety, and cornerback during his time in high school. The 5-foot-11 junior from Martin Luther King High School is one of the top players in the state, ranking No. 19 in Michigan's class of 2027.

This will be the third defensive back that Bielema has received a commitment from for 2027, joining four-star cornerback Justin Johnson, as well as three-star safety Tyrone Howard Jr.

Whether it's Vontae Davis, Matthew Bailey, or Devon Witherspoon, the Illinois football program has seen tons of top-tier defensive backs come through their program. They have been churning out tons of talented players for the next level, making Illinois an intriguing option for high school prospects to consider.

Flemister, whose scouting report on 247sports describes him as a "twitchy and instinctive playmaker that has done a little bit of everything," has plenty of intangibles that make him a great defender in the secondary. He has all of the mental aspects of the game in place, as he can "see the play at an advanced level with his active eyes and route awareness."

Flemister has a chance to flourish in Champaign, especially with defensive backs coach Corey Parker at the helm. His ability to play multiple positions, mixed with Illinois' knack for developing talent in the secondary, can certainly turn him into a quality asset for the future.

The only thing that would have to change, if anything, would be his weight. But with one year left of high school, and tons of time with the staff at Illinois, he can certainly gain some mass by the time he gets to Champaign.
