It’s always a good idea to try to keep your state’s best products close to home. While the Oregon Ducks have continued to recruit nationally in the 2027 cycle, earning commitments from players in 11 states, they have made a greater effort to keep Oregon’s top high school talent in the Pacific Northwest.
The Ducks made that clear by offering three-star tight end George VanSandt back on May 7. Just a few weeks later, the Central Catholic star is reopening his recruitment. On Wednesday, VanSandt announced his decommitment from Arkansas and scheduled an official visit to Oregon for June 5.
VanSandt committed to the Razorbacks in April and was supposed to be in Fayetteville for an official visit this weekend. Now, those plans have been called off.

“After a great deal of thought and reflection, I have decided to decommit from the University of Arkansas,” VanSandt said in a post on X. “This was not an easy decision. I have a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for Coach Silverfield, Coach Turner and the entire Arkansas staff for believing in me early and building relationships with me and my family throughout this process. I wish nothing but the best for the Arkansas program moving forward.”
VanSandt is the No. 2 player in Oregon and the top offensive player. The Ducks already have the top player in the state in West Linn corner Josiah Molden. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end from Portland has great hands and can block, which goes a long way with Oregon offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer and tight ends coach Jack Smith.
Oregon has recruited well at tight end recently. After sending Kenyon Sadiq and Terrance Ferguson to the next level, the Ducks have also earned transfers Jamari Johnson and Andrew Olesh, while landing the top tight end in the 2026 cycle with Kendre Harrison.
VanSandt isn’t the only tight end the Ducks are targeting in their 2027 recruiting class. Four-stars Anthony Cartwright III and Malik Howard will both take official visits to Eugene on June 19. The Ducks would definitely like to add one tight end to their class, which ranks No. 9 nationally, per Rivals.
