Indiana football’s defensive secondary showed some issues in the Hoosiers’ 29-23 win over Northwestern to open up Big Ten play last Friday night.
Wildcats quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 22 of his 29 passing attempts for 293 yards and a pair of touchdowns, finding more success through the air as the game went on. Luke Dehnicke proved too much to handle at tight end, bringing in seven catches for 140 yards while receiver Griffin Wilde caught both of Chiles’ touchdown passes.
We ran a survey to gauge what fans felt needed the most improvement this week and the secondary took the cake with 57% of the vote:
The secondary will have a chance to improve this weekend at Rutgers, but it won’t be easy. Scarlet Knights receiver KJ Duff is an absolute monster out wide. He’s a really tough cover for anyone, standing at 6’6”, and he’s playing like one of the best receivers in the country this season.
Indiana sits as a 24.5-point favorite over Rutgers as of Thursday afternoon, per FanDuel Sportsbook. The Hoosiers will have to keep Duff from making plays in the deep areas of the field to feel good about that margin.
