Indiana fans think running game will prove crucial against Ohio State

No. 2 Indiana’s ground attack will prove crucial when the Hoosiers take on No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Football Championship game on Saturday night.

That’s what the fans think, at least.

A pretty strong majority of fans selected the Hoosiers’ running game as being more important than their passing game in a Reacts survey we ran earlier this week:

Indiana’s offense has been buoyed by strong play from the running back duo of Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black this season, with Fernando Mendoza occasionally chipping in to help pick up a few yards on the ground on scrambles and, less often, on designed quarterback runs.

Obviously running the ball is important because it can set up the pass, but if Indiana’s able to find consistent success on the ground it’ll give the Hoosiers the chance to play keepaway from a pretty efficient Buckeye offense and quarterback Julian Sayin. Working the clock will become even more crucial in the event the Hoosiers have a lead late in the game.
