Indiana football lands commitment from 2027 linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield

Indiana football’s staff has been hard at work on the high school recruiting trail building out the future of the program. That effort paid dividends on Friday afternoon.
Jalaythan Mayfield, a linebacker in the class of 2027, announced his commitment to the Hoosiers via livestream. He chose Indiana over offers from Georgia and Miami, per Rivals national recruiting and transfer portal reporter Hayes Fawcett.
“That’s the place to be developed,” Mayfield said of Indiana during the livestream. “I mean, Miami, Georgia, great programs, they develop players as well, but nobody does it like Indiana.”
Mayfield attends Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He’s rated as a 4-star prospect by Rivals, ranking in as the 12th highest-rated linebacker and 124th highest-rated prospect overall in the class. As of his commitment, he’s Rivals’ highest-rated member of Indiana’s 2027 class. He’s rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, ranking in as the 39th highest-rated linebacker in the class.
He’s the 13th current commitment in Indiana’s 2027 class.
