Indiana football received two scares against Northwestern during week four. One involved the Wildcats’ near upset. Running back Turbo Richard leaving early rose as the other fright moment in Bloomington.

Now the defending national champs have upset-minded Rutgers to deal with. But many wonder if the prized College Football Transfer Portal find will suit up.

College football insider for On3 Pete Nakos dropped a crucial update on that front Wednesday night.

“Indiana RB Turbo Richard, who exited last week’s win over Northwestern with an ankle sprain, is probable for Saturday’s game at Rutgers,” Nakos posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Richard’s health rises as a huge boost of momentum for IU. Head coach Curt Cignetti has relied on the speed and experience of the former Boston College starter during the early portion of the season.

Richard carried the football nine times for 68 yards, averaging 7.6 yards per game. But IU turned out to be just fine without Richard. Lee Beebe Jr. handled the rushing load for Cignetti and company, hitting 24 carried for 203 yards and scoring one touchdown.

Indiana’s narrow 29-23 win over Northwestern is proof of what lies ahead for the Hoosiers. Teams in the Big Ten will be aiming to topple the champs. Northwestern showed it wasn’t backing down from IU. Now Rutgers will aim to follow suit on Saturday.
