Indiana football looks to be in the tight end market for a third straight offseason.
It’s a position that’s quietly thrived under head coach Curt Cignetti and position coach Grant Cain. Zach Horton transferred in from JMU and played well during his lone season in 2024 and Riley Nowakowski, a former Wisconsin transfer, picked up right where Horton left off this season.
With Nowakowski set to run out of eligibility, Indiana’s probably gonna look to the portal to see if it can add any talent to the room. Brock Schott out of Miami recently entered his name into the transfer portal, per Tom Loy of CBS Sports. and looks to be as good an option as any.
Schott is originally from Leo-Cedarville, Indiana, and attended Leo Junior/Senior High School where he was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2025 ranked at 13th among tight ends and 246th nationally. His offers included Miami, Auburn, Duke and Indiana before he committed to the Hurricanes.
He’s spent just one season with the Hurricanes in 2025, catching two passes for 24 yards. That says a lot more about Miami as a program, he was a true freshman and was behind multiple players with existing production. Also there’s a lot more to being a tight end obviously and we’re not doing player evaluation based on a cursory glance at an ESPN statistics page.
Schott’s younger than the tight ends Indiana has pursued before, obviously, but a long-term play on his talent could prove dividends. However, like Nowakowski, he played multiple positions in high school before settling in at tight end.
He was an excellent pass rusher in high school, so that should tell you something about his strength and athleticism. Harnessing that on offense is the kind of thing that gets coaches into the facility at 6 a.m.
Schott would be more of a long term play than Horton or Nowakowski, but so is what Cignetti is trying to turn Indiana into as a program. He’d be a no-brainer addition.
