INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana football wide receiver Charlie Becker got a little too hyped up celebrating the program’s first Big Ten Title since 1967 on Saturday night.
Becker did the O-H-I-O chant coined by Buckeyes fans, but was caught on camera ad-libbing a different ending to the phrase after the Hoosiers’ 13-10 win over Ohio State in the conference championship game.
It was a rare youthful mistake for a sophomore who turned into a key contributor for the No. 2 Hoosiers (13-0) down the stretch with leading receivers Omar Cooper Jr. and Elijah Sarratt suffering injuries. Cooper left the game with a leg injury on IU’s first possession and didn’t return the game.
Becker helped Indiana leave Lucas Oil Stadium with the Big Ten title by setting up his team’s lone touchdown with a 51-yard grab — only the third play of 50-plus yards OSU has given up all season — then sealing the win with a 33-yard catch that helped IU run most of the final two minutes off the clock.
Becker had six catches for more yards (126) than Ohio State was allowing on the season (121.3). It was the third time he crossed the 100-yard mark in Indiana’s past four games.
