Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza Announces Career News After Winning Heisman Trophy

Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza was awarded the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. He was one of four finalists, along with the Ohio State Buckeyes‘ Julian Sayin, the Vanderbilt Commodores’ Diego Pavia and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s Jeremiyah Love.

In 13 games this season, he has completed 226 of 316 passes for 2,980 yards, 33 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 181.4 passer rating. Mendoza has also rushed for 240 yards and six touchdowns. He became the first player in Indiana history to win the prestigious award.

Up next for him and the No. 1 seed Hoosiers will be a Rose Bowl appearance on Jan. 1. They’ll play the winner between the No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners and the No. 9 Alabama Crimson Tide.

As the redshirt junior continues to earn national recognition, his personal brand grows. On Sunday, Mendoza revealed for the first time a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) partnership with Dr Pepper.

“That Winning Feeling. It’s a Pepper Thing. #HeisMendoza #ad @drpepper,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

Dr Pepper becomes just the latest company to partner with Mendoza. He’s previously announced deals with Epic Games, Adidas, Rent-A-Center and T-Mobile.

Mendoza’s On3 NIL valuation of $2.6 million is tied with South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers for the fifth-highest in college football. He’s the only player on Indiana to break the $2 million threshold.

As Indiana continues to win, its popularity will grow. However, as one of the top prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, this is likely Mendoza’s last stretch with the Hoosiers.

With another brand deal secured, though, eyes continue to stay focused on Mendoza. He looks to make more Indiana history and bring home the program’s first national championship.
