Indiana has metamorphosed into a transfer portal magnet. It's now also attracting top-flight high school recruits, too.

Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales committed to the Hoosiers on Friday during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show." Sales, the Rivals industry ranking's No. 8 overall prospect in the 2027 class, chose Indiana over Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and LSU.

Sales is practically in Indiana's backyard. The 6-foot-5 wideout hails from Indianapolis, a bit more than an hour drive to Bloomington, where the Hoosiers are hoping to defend the program's first-ever national championship during the 2026 campaign.

If Sales puts ink to paper in December and follows through on his commitment to head coach Curt Cignetti and Co., he'll become Indiana football's first five-star signee out of high school, according to The Athletic. He's the highest-rated player to commit to the program in the modern recruiting era, per On3.

"Coach Cig is a straight up guy," Sales said on "McAfee."

"He's going to keep it real with you. He's not going to sit there and tell you what you want to hear. … It just clicked instantly. I don't want [a] guy that's going to sit there and tell me what I want to hear and just give me bulls***. I want to work for everything."

Indiana is coming off a 16-0 season. The Hoosiers completed their storybook two-year turnaround. In Cignetti's first year at the helm, Indiana went from Big Ten laughing stock to College Football Playoff qualifier. In 2025, the Hoosiers played a tougher schedule, proved their emergence wasn't a fluke and went all the way.

Not only did Indiana produce the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, now-Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza, but the Hoosiers also saw one of his top targets, Omar Cooper Jr., hear his name called on Day 1 of the draft, as the New York Jets selected the breakout wideout with the 30th pick in the first round.

Cooper also played his high school ball at Lawrence North, where Sales currently stars. In 10 games as a junior, Sales piled up 794 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns while averaging 21.5 yards per reception.

Rivals director of scouting Charles Power compares him to Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who developed into a first-round pick at LSU.

"A vapor trail on vertical routes," Power wrote in his evaluation for On3. "Has the potential to take the top off of defenses with regularity. Shows quality tracking skills, locating the football over his shoulder. Competitive as a blocker and physical while working as a safety. … Still adding nuance to his game as a route-runner. Would like to see him continue to add to his catch radius and become more of a mismatch in contested-catch situations given his size. Has the potential to be the top wide receiver prospect in the cycle with continued development."

At the moment, New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin five-star receiver Easton Royal is the top wideout in the 2027 class, according to the Rivals industry ranking. Royal committed to Texas, one of Sales' finalists.

Sales could have formed quite the 1-2 punch by pledging to the Longhorns. Instead, he's planning on staying in state with the Hoosiers.
