On Monday night, Indiana defeated Miami to win its first ever national championship. The Hoosiers became the first college football team in the modern era to finish a season 16-0, cementing their status as an all-time great squad.
The title also marked the third in a row for the Big Ten. Michigan won the national championship in 2023, followed by Ohio State last year and now Indiana, meaning that the conference has now won three titles in three years with three different schools.
Hence, we can now say it: The Big Ten is officially the best conference in college football. After 15 years of the SEC dominating the sport, it has been surpassed by the Big Ten as the premier conference.
The good news for USC is that the Trojans are members of the top conference in college football. The bad news, however, is that the Trojans themselves have not done all that much to contribute to the league’s success.
USC fans right now find themselves in a similar position to South Carolina and Mississippi State fans were when Alabama, Georgia, and LSU were dominating the sport. While it is certainly great to see the conference succeed and gain prestige, it would be nice to have the Trojans contribute to that themselves, rather than having to watch their conference foes win championships while USC plays in a mid-tier bowl game each December.
USC plays in the clear best conference in college football. That is great. Now, the Trojans need to prove that they can establish themselves as contenders within that conference.
