Instant reactions to Alabama's comeback road win vs. Kentucky

On Saturday afternoon, the Alabama Crimson Tide traveled for the first time this season, doing so in Lexington for a SEC showdown against the Kentucky Wildcats.

An early season test for the Crimson Tide, this game was certainly that for Alabama, especially early on. Alabama, in the game's first two quarters, struggled mightily in multiple areas, and eventually trailed at halftime, 17-13.

The second half was an entirely different story though, as Alabama dominated the third-and-fourth quarters to the tune of a 32-0 edge on the scoreboard. This helped Alabama to pull away late to eventually leave Kentucky with a win, 45-17.

Following are some instant reactions to Alabama's comeback win against Kentucky on Saturday to open SEC play.

Alabama's defense dominates

Undoubtedly the biggest positive from Alabama's performance Saturday in Lexington was the play of the defense, which stepped up in a big way when the Crimson Tide needed it most. Overall, Alabama's defense limited Kentucky to only 209 yards of total offense, while also holding the Wildcats to 1-of-14 on third down with three turnovers forced, one of which was a pick six.

Keelon Russell struggles, bounces back in first road, SEC start

Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell definitely saw some struggles in his first-career road and SEC start, especially in the first half where he threw two interceptions and had a fumble. Russell did bounce back in the second half, and eventually finished the game 16-of-23 passing for 188 yards and a touchdown, his first of the season.

Daniel Hill has career day

While a number of Alabama running backs found the end zone Saturday, it was the Daniel Hill show in the backfield against the Wildcats. Hill finished with a career day for the Crimson Tide, rushing for a team-high 104 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.

Conor Talty huge for Crimson Tide in first half

Lastly, would the Crimson Tide have been in a position to do what they did in the second half if it weren't for Conor Talty's performance in the first? Talty was huge for the Crimson Tide in the first half, keeping Alabama close on the scoreboard by making all three field goal attempts from 25, 41, and 34 yards out.
