Michigan is hosting several priority targets across the 2027 and 2028 classes this weekend with the spring game as the main headliner, as well as group of 2026 signees and a trio of 2027 commits. Maize n Brew breaks down key prospects who are in Ann Arbor and where things currently stand.
2027 WR Dakota Guerrant
The must-land wide receiver from Harper Woods (Mich.) High wore Michigan themed Jordan’s for his spring return. He was last on campus in March to take in how the new coaching staff is running the operation and the revamped offense. Senior director of recruiting relations Ron Bellamy spent a few minutes with Guerrant. Oregon, a major contender for Guerrant, will get him back to Eugene for an official in June, with the Wolverines expected to host him during Victor’s Weekend.
2027 WR Quentin Burrell
Notre Dame is the perceived leader for Burrell, but Michigan was also among his Top 4 programs released on Wednesday. His official visit schedule was announced that same day as well, with U-M set to welcome him back on June 19 for Victor’s Weekend. He’ll be in South Bend the week prior and is heading to Arizona State at the end of the month. Right now, the Wolverines need to do everything possible to overcome the competition for Burrell.
2027 safety Tavares Harrington
It’s only been a few weeks since Harrington took multi-day visit to Michigan, with him returning to see fans in the stands at The Big House for the first time. The Wolverines are looking to make Harrington’s next cut of schools. Currently, he has official visits scheduled to Alabama, Ole Miss and Nebraska. Notre Dame is also very much in the picture.
2027 edge rusher Jayce Brewer
Brewer ended up making it for the spring game after being on Maize n Brew’s preview article on Friday. It’s a return visit following a March appearance on campus. He recently told On3’s Ethan McDowell Michigan is standing out alongside Tennessee, Indiana and Purdue. The Hoosiers appear to be the favorite heading into official visits, but it’s likely the Wolverines will get another shot in June.
2027 ATH Lundon Hampton
Maize n Brew reported this past Saturday that Hampton locked in an official visit to Michigan from June 12-14. The Wolverines offered on his spring practice visit a few weeks ago, with running backs coach Tony Alford recruiting the in-stater at the position. Hampton could play linebacker or safety at the next level, but Alford likes the former’s ability to make defenders miss in the open field. The two were together along with Hampton’s family during warmups.
2027 safety Peyton Higginson
Higginson actually arrived at Michigan on Thursday and capped off the three-day visit at the spring game. With him being a Utah native, his familiarity with the coaching staff is tight-knit, which shows in Higginson including the Wolverines among the schools recruiting him the hardest. Michigan also just picked up a commitment from another Ute prospect in four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati, who’s already working to get Higginson to be his teammate in college.
2028 WR Deandre Bidden
Bidden told Maize n Brew last weekend that a return to Michigan for the spring game was a possibility. He ended up making the trip and spent some time with Bellamy when the team was warming up. Like Guerrant, his teammate at Harper Woods, Bidden watched spring practice last month and is building a bond with wide receivers coach Micah Simon. He can go anywhere he wants at the next level, so it’s good to see Michigan pressing early.
2028 QB Donald Tabron II
The next great quarterback to come out of the Mitten State came back to Michigan for nearly the 20th time. But it’s not a guarantee he stays in-state. Much like Bidden, Tabron’s offer list is impressive and he’s shown an interest in leaving the Midwest, having visited Stanford, Oregon, Auburn and others this spring. However, it’s big that Tabron got to see Bryce Underwood live again, as Underwood’s ascension in Year 2 will be imperative in Michigan remaining in the picture.
2028 WR Marshaun Thornton
Bidden wasn’t the only elite sophomore route runner on campus Saturday. Thornton, ranked in the Top 60 nationally, was the third offered visitor from Chicagoland. He had not been to Ann Arbor since this past fall, but Michigan was in on him early with his second offer coming from the Wolverines. Next step for U-M is to get him back either for a camp at Al Glick Field House later in the spring or a game-day appearance.
Prospects On The Radar
- 2027 Sterling Heights (Mich.) Stevenson interior offensive lineman Braden Chaffin has been to Michigan a few times, so it’s clear the coaching staff is closely monitoring him. Chaffin has Louisville, Marshall and several MAC offers.
- 2027 Rochester (N.Y.) McQuaid offensive tackle Brysen Terry has an offer from Syracuse. At 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds, he towered over most on the sidelines.
- 2028 Brookline (Mass.) Tabor Academy defensive lineman Simon Nuamah was at The Big House with his family. Notable offers include Miami, Penn State, Boston College, Georgia and Duke.
- 2028 New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic offensive lineman Ben Coleman just received a Notre Dame offer earlier this week. We’ll see if Michigan also pulls the trigger.
2027 Commits
Spotted on the away sideline during warmups were four-star Muskegon (Mich.) High edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, Saline (Mich.) High interior offensive lineman Louis Esposito, and Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel safety Darrell Mattison.
Kitchen really caught my eye because of his frame. A bigger-bodied physique, he reminded me of Enow Etta when the 2024 signee was at this particular period of his own respective recruitment. I expect Kitchen to dominate in the camp setting this spring before his senior year begins. He’ll be fun to monitor over the next month or so.
Mattison was with his Mt. Carmel teammates near the north end zone. Having Mattison committed only plays in Michigan’s favor for Burrell, Harrington, and others.
2026 Signees
Before this group begins their careers at Michigan, they all got to soak in the spring game festivities. Those who signed back in the winter and returned to Ann Arbor on Saturday were offensive tackle Tommy Fraumann, edge rusher Tariq Boney, edge rusher Carter Meadows, tight end Mason Bonner, offensive tackle Malakai Lee and defensive lineman Titan Davis.
