Iowa football center Logan Jones named Rimington Trophy finalist

What a journey it's been for Logan Lones in Iowa City.

Jones was a four-star defensive lineman in Iowa's 2020 recruiting class. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native was a big get for the Hawkeyes in the defensive trenches, but he wouldn't remain on that side of the ball for long. Following Tyler Linderbaum's graduation, Jones made the transition from defensive tackle to center, where he's been ever since. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound lineman started 51 games as a Hawkeye from 2022-2025 and has racked up the awards.

After earning third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023, Jones has been named a first-team All-Big Ten player in each of the last two seasons, firmly establishing himself as the best center in the Big Ten. Now, Jones has the chance to be named the best center in the entire country.

On Monday, Jones was named one of three finalists for the Rimington Trophy.

The Rimington Trophy is presented to the best center in Division I college football. Jones joins Oregon's Iapani Laloulu and Florida's Jake Slaughter as one of three finalists. If he wins the Rimington Trophy this year, he'll be the second Hawk all-time to win it, alongside Linderbaum in 2022.

Jones has been the anchor of an Iowa offensive line that's been excellent in 2025. The group is one of 10 semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award, given to the best offensive line in the country. Iowa ran for 177.8 yards per game behind Jones and the rest of the line, which was fourth in the Big Ten. That unit also allowed just 19 sacks in 12 games this season, which was the 19th-fewest allowed in the country.

The Rimington Trophy winner will be announced on Friday, Dec. 12 on the ESPN College Football Awards Show.
