In a bit of a change of plans, Iowa football star defensive lineman Max Llewellyn will now participate in the Panini Senior Bowl instead of the previously committed East-West Shrine Bowl.

Similar to the East-West Shrine Bowl, the Panini Senior Bowl is regarded as a notable college football All-Star game that headlines the first stage of the NFL draft scouting process. Taking place in Mobile, Ala., for the past 76 years, the Senior Bowl is the longest-running All-Star game and features more than 900 NFL personnel from all 32 teams, and over 1,100 media members from around the country.

The 6-foot-5, 263-pound defensive lineman from Urbandale, Iowa, has played in 43 career games during his time in Iowa City, including starting all 13 for the Hawkeyes in 2025. Llewellyn has recorded 64 career tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 10 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

The decision to switch from the East-West Shrine Bowl to the Senior Bowl was primarily due to the conflicting schedules of the two events. Unfortunately, the Shrine Bowl’s Jan. 27 game falls on the first day of open practice for the Senior Bowl, which would jeopardize Llewellyn’s exposure to the pro scouts in Mobile.

The 2026 Panini Senior Bowl will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CT from the University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala., and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Fans interested in attending the event and its surrounding festivities can obtain tickets on the Panini Senior Bowl website.
