With spring practices now underway for the 2026 Iowa football team, excitement is building around the program's future. Those conversations got a little more exciting with the news of a new commitment.
On Saturday morning, 2027 three-star defensive back Jake Thies took to X to announce that he's committing to the Hawkeyes.

Thies is a three-star defensive back prospect from Oak Park, Illinois, and Fenwick High School. The 6-foot, 185-pound safety had over 20 Division I offers, ultimately choosing Iowa over schools such as Illinois, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Northwestern. He had visits lined up with the Hawkeyes, Fighting Illini, and Wildcats over the next few months, but decided to make things official on Saturday.
Thies saw his stock rise a ton after a dominant performance in the State Championship game last season, where he had 18 total tackles and an interception on defense while adding 161 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. He's a do-it-all gadget player who will fit nicely into whatever role the coaching staff has for him when he arrives on campus.
He's the fourth commit in Iowa's 2027 class, joining fellow three-stars Gevin Stecker, Jaxx DeJean, and Braylon Bingham. It's early, but the class is coming together well for Kirk Ferentz and company as they get ready to embark on another season of Hawkeye football.
