Iowa football improved its College Football Playoff chances and shocked the Michigan Wolverines with a 20-19 Week 4 road win that came in the most thrilling of ways. The Hawkeyes got a last-second touchdown pass from recently appointed starting QB Hank Brown to receiver Reece Vander Zee that sent 111,000 plus fans home with memories they will likely never forget.

Reporter Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports shared video of the exciting play, which gave the Hawkeyes their first win in the series since 2016.

Brown battled Jeremy Hecklinksi throughout training camp before coming out on top and gaining the opportunity to show Hawkeyes fans what he can do this season. The former three-star quarterback from Nashville, Tennessee has now led coach Kirk Ferentz’s team to four consecutive wins.

Brown had his best game against the Wolverines, completing 21-of-35 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns on a day when his Wolverines counterpart Bryce Underwood had 276 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception.

Michigan outgained Iowa by a final tally of 429 to 285 total yards, but the Wolverines failed to capitalize on their opportunities and allowed Ferentz’s team to hang around. A Braeden Jackson 99-yard first quarter kickoff return also helped seal the Wolverines’ losing fate as the Hawkeyes ruled the day in Ann Arbor, sending coach Kyle Whittingham’s team back to the drawing board.

Brown, Vander Zee and Ferentz’s team now have coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes’ full and undivided attention as Ohio State will take on the No. 17 Hawkeyes on October 3 in Iowa City. A win in that game could make Iowa one of the nation’s top ranked teams, an unthinkable early season scenario for a program that didn’t know who its quarterback would be just a few short months ago.
