Iowa football is continuing to be the epitome of consistency. While Kirk Ferentz makes small coaching staff changes, the team has remained steadfast for decades. Ferentz took over Iowa in 1999. He brought the Hawkeyes to their first bowl game in 2001 and has missed just two bowl games since. Last year, Ferentz did something outside his norm. Iowa brought in a transfer quarterback from the FCS ranks. Mark Gronowski was great for the Hawkeyes, contributing 26 total touchdowns.
This year, Ferentz snagged another potential stud from the FCS ranks, Tony Diaz from Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Now, the latest transfer for Iowa is turning heads, according to Pete Nakos of On3.
“The Hawkeyes believe they have found a top contributor to their offense in Diaz, a Texas-Rio Grande Valley transfer. Described to On3 as a “freak show,” Diaz has put together a strong fall camp and “does something absolutely ridiculous every practice.” The 5-foot-10, 184-pound receiver was limited in the spring but has burst onto the scene in fall camp. He posted 881 receiving yards last season at the FCS level,” Nakos wrote.
