After a visit to Iowa City on Monday, former Ohio State defensive back Cody Haddad has committed to Iowa football from the transfer portal.
Haddad spent one season in Columbus after signing with the Buckeyes as a 3-star from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, but the Buckeyes‘ talent backlog did not allow the 5-foot-11, 186-pounder to play in a single game last year, leading to a redshirt designation.
Haddad is ranked as the 862nd player overall and as the No. 74 safety, per Rivals transfer portal rankings.

ESPN’s Max Olson had previously reported that Haddad was in the process of setting up visits to Tennessee, Nebraska and Texas A&M.
The talented defensive back had a long list of offers coming out of high school in 2025, including Ohio State, Missouri, Michigan State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Although the Buckeyes did manage to sign Haddad the first time around, the Hawkeyes’ recruiting efforts in high school and in the transfer portal eventually paid dividends.
It’s another massive transfer portal acquisition for head coach Kirk Ferentz, defensive coordinator Phil Parker, and the Hawkeyes’ program as a whole, as Haddad will have all four years of NCAA eligibility remaining moving into the fall.
Haddad becomes the fourth defensive back to commit to Iowa during the 2026 transfer portal cycle, joining Anthony Hawkins, Tyler Brown, and Xavier Styles.
