Late Friday night, news broke that redshirt junior defensive end Brian Allen was entering the NCAA transfer portal.

247Sports and HawkeyeInsider's Eliot Clough broke the news that Allen had opted to enter the portal. A 6-foot-3, 264-pound defensive lineman, Allen carved out a rotational role along the Hawkeyes' defensive line this season.

Per Pro Football Focus, Allen saw 282 defensive snaps, earning a 77.4 pass rushing grade and an overall defensive grade of 72.4. Across the past three seasons, Allen played in 28 games, tallying 34 tackles, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two passes defended and one fumble recovery.

The Lake in the Hills, Ill., product also flashed during spring practices and in Kids Day at Kinnicks. Allen felt like a Hawkeye that might have been poised to step into a starting role in 2026. Now, it appears his final season of eligibility will occur someplace else.

Allen joins safety Kael Kolarik as the Hawkeyes' two defensive transfer portal entrants thus far. Allen was a three-star signee in the Hawkeyes' 2022 class, the nation's 111th-ranked defensive lineman and the No. 3 player in Illinois, per 247Sports.
