Iowa State falls at No. 8 BYU

PROVO, Utah — Iowa State (3-3, 1-2 Big 12) dropped a 24-10 decision to the No. 8 Brigham Young (5-0, 3-0 Big 12)Friday night.
Cyclone quarterback Jaylen Raynor completed 16 of 29 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in the loss. His two favorite targets were Ty Claiborne, Tyler Fortenberry and Omari Hayes who three receptions each.
BYU went ahead on their first drive when running back Journee Tonga broke through the line for a 6-yard touchdown Allen ran the ball eight times for 19 yards and one touchdown in the win.
The Cougars remained in front until a 11-play, 33-yard drive early in the second quarter saw Dubuque native Kyle Konrardy’s right boot connect on a 40 yard field goal.
Late in the first half, BYU answered with a four play, 71-yard drive as Oregon transfer Kyler Kasper’s five yard reception, gave the Cougars a 14-3 lead going into halftime.
With 69 second left in the third quarter, BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier – who passed for 329 yards – extended the lead to 21-3 following a 75 yard completion to Legend Glasker.
A quick six play, 41 yard drive, that took 1:56 off the clock brought Iowa State within 11 as Christian Greenlaw hauled in a flip from Raynor.
The Cyclones nearly brought the score line down to single possession, before a 46-yard field goal attempt by Konrardy sailed wide left.
The Spartans capitalized, going six plays and 52 yards for an insurance field goal as Matthias Dunn kicked it in from 38 yards for what proved to be the final margin.
Next, Iowa State has a bye week. Their next game is Oct. 24 at Arizona.
